Q: What's it like being an actor? - Nancy, CA Q: What's it like being on Army Wives? Is it fun? - Sarah, MO A: Like any job, there are a lot of days that are extremely fun and there are days where you are pulling your hair out. I'm not going to lie and say every single day is filled with butterflies and rainbows, but overall the mood is always upbeat, people are laughing and smiling. And there's no drama; it's a blessing. The show has attracted such forces in the acting world that I think we are all grateful that we have each other to play off of. Q: I love your character! How do you prepare yourself for such a role as this? - Mercedes, TN A: First of all, thank you! The show is obviously poignant, with what's going
on with the world right now, so I do a lot of research. I spoke with an Army
ranger, who was part of the first unit to deploy right after 9/11, about training
and what it was like over in Afghanistan. Also, I've had countless conversations
with women and men who are left home while their spouses go off overseas about
what life is like and the adjustment period when they are gone and when they
come home. I am constantly watching the news and reading any magazine that has
insight and specific viewpoints as to what is going on with the armed forces. A: It has been the most challenging and yet the most gratifying role I have played to date. Earnestness is challenging. You think that it would be so easy playing the really honest guy, but for me getting angry and cocky onscreen has always come a lot easier. I struggle with it every day. I'm always asking, "Can he have a hidden drug problem or something?" Let's give him some edge. Q: How was it transitioning from the fictional world of "Charmed" to the very real "Army Wives"? - Melissa, IL A: "Charmed" was difficult in its own right, because you're portraying
things that don't exist. When your character is talking about warlocks and dragons
and slaying, that's difficult; you're struggling to have those lines come out
in a believable way. "Army Wives" is difficult in a different way,
because we're portraying something that is happening today - right here,
right now - and have to do it accurately and honestly. A: It's as beautiful as it is ugly. For a lot of people this is reality. They have to sit on the porch and look at the woman they love and give their kids a hug and say "I'm not going to see you for 18 months." As a father I think that is unfathomable; I couldn't imagine doing it. I have the utmost respect for these men and women and want to make sure that I portray that life and my character as honestly as possible. Q: Do you feel like a true soldier when you're in character? - Bridget,TN A:When you put on the ACU (the army combat uniform), you have a shaved head and you're in formation and there is a drill sergeant yelling at you, all of a sudden, yeah, you believe it. There's something very believable and exciting about it. Q: Has playing someone in the military given you any insight into what it must really be like? - Jon, CA A: Absolutely. I imagine being a father and leaving the three people I love most in the world for an indefinite amount of time. It's really tough as a parent and husband to leave your foundation and support group. Q: How do you feel about being on a show that is so geared toward the empowerment of women? - Christy, MS A: It's fun. But good work is good work. It has nothing to do with whether I am working with women or men. It's just about who inspires me, and right now I'm surrounded by phenomenal actresses. Q: I am your biggest fan. Are you single? - Hollie, IL A: Yes, it seems right now I am forever cursed to be single. The reason why I say that is because any time I'm feeling ready for a relationship, either the girl I'm into has a boyfriend or I end up leaving for the show. I travel a lot. I am in no place long enough to give proper face time to anyone, so right now I wouldn't be the greatest boyfriend. I am kind of a nomad. That being said, my God, I would love nothing more than to find someone right now and really give it a go. I haven't been in a serious relationship in a couple of years. Q: What kind of woman are you attracted to? - Jess, NC A: She has to be spontaneous, intelligent, funny, athletic and down for whatever. Someone who inspires me and makes me a better person. Q: I married my soldier only 12 days after meeting him. Do you think that "quick love" will work out? - Wishee, GA A: If anyone believes in quick love, it's me. I am a hopeless romantic. When you have met your soul mate, you just know. Of course, relationships are harder in this day and age, but, that being said, if it feels right and you know it through and through and your soul is telling you this is the one, then I say, "Go for it." Q: Do you think men like your character really exist? A true Prince Charming and Cute? - Jennifer, NJ A: That's tough, because Trevor is written in such a way where literally the
kids could burn down the house and he's going to grab them and hug them and
say "It's OK, buddies, we're gonna rebuild it together." Sometimes
I laugh and say, "Oh my God, is this real?" I do believe that there
are really genuine, honest, loving men out there. But he is a character, and
people need to remember that in real life everyone has flaws. To go into a relationship
with expectations that the guy's going to be a perfect Prince Charming, you
are going to be disappointed. A: No. I respect women and men in the armed services who are fighting for our freedom but even getting a little glimpse of what they go through and deal with I could never do it. And that might offend some people but all I can do is identify with why I am on this planet and that is to entertain. Q: Does being on this show make you think about starting a family in real life? - Amanda, NE A: I would love to have a wife at some point. My parents have been married 37 years, and my younger sister is already married and due in January. Family, to me, is most important, and I can't wait to have one of my own, but I am not going to rush into it. I don't want to get a divorce. I want to take my time, do it once and get it right. Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into acting and film work? - Alex, CA A: I'd say if this is something you really want to do, realize that it takes full dedication. It means dropping whatever you are doing, becoming fearless and moving to a city like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles. Take classes and surround yourself with other actors. Be affected by the energy that these cities bring to you. It also involves following through with your dreams. We're all on this planet for such a short time, it would be a shame to, at 60 years old, look back and say, "I wish I had done that." Q: How is it working with Sally Pressman? - Anne, SD A: She is so talented. She graduated from Yale and did theater in London. And she owns Roxy. It is really enjoyable to work opposite her, because she cares a lot and has such a handle on her character. She is a trip. I love watching her process and love acting off of her. I think I am very lucky. Q: I want to see more of you. What else do you have coming up besides "Army Wives"? - Johnique, NY A: I was in a movie that was released earlier this year called "The Ultimate Gift," with James Garner, Abigail Breslin and Brian Dennehy. I also play Jessica Simpson's boyfriend in "Blonde Ambition," coming out this year, costarring Luke Wilson. And I just completed a NASCAR movie for ABC Family called "The Circuit." Q: What is your dream project? Who would you like to work with in the future? - Rachel, PA A: The dream would be to work with my two favorite actors, Daniel Day Lewis and Cate Blanchett. Or playing Joaquin Phoenix's brother in a film. Basically anything where I get to act opposite actors like these; ones who bring a certain caliber to their work and literally morph into the character they are playing. I believe if you act with people who are better than you, it's only going to make you better. Q: What's your favorite TV show? - Carla, TX A: I am kind of obsessed with "Lost," "Heroes," "Grey's Anatomy," "Brothers and Sisters" and "Friday Night Lights." Those are what inspire me right now. Q: What's your favorite CD of the moment? - Candy, MA A: I just bought Kanye's new album, "Graduation." That's pretty awesome. And I just saw him perform live a few days ago. Kanye's dope, he's intense, he comes out singing and his whole body is shaking like he has to perform. He was incredible. Q: What's the first job you ever had? - Deanna, NY A: I only had two jobs prior to acting. First was as a gift wrapper at a surf shop during Christmas time. I didn't know what I was doing, so before I started my mom sat up with me all night long teaching me how to wrap. The second job was stringing the rackets for my tennis team. |
