Drew Fuller's Need For Speed
Source: PopWrap
Article By: Jarett Wieselman
Date: June 6, 2008

Embarrassing confession time: I loved "Charmed." Like a lot. I kinda wanted to hang with the Halliwell's, so naturally I jumped at the chance to talk to Drew Fuller, who played Piper's son Chris. The 28-year-old actor co-stars with Michelle Trachtenberg in "The Circuit," a surprisingly racy (by ABC Family standards) movie set in the rough and tumble world of NASCAR that premieres June 8.

Pop Wrap: Your character, Kid Walker, is described by ABC Family as "the rock star of the racing circuit, who scores off the track as much as on." How do you prepare to play that guy?

Drew Fuller: (Laughs) That's amazing. I could never come up with anything as ridiculous or amazing as that! It's one of those things where you get to indulge all the fantasy's you had as a kid. Playing the rock star where girls want you and men want to be like you. It's a fun ride that you can't take yourself too seriously on.

Pop Wrap: Are you a big NASCAR fan?

Drew: I love motorcycle racing, but was unfamiliar with NASCAR. I picked up "NASCAR for Dummies" and developed a new found respect for everyone involved from the drivers to the pit crew. I am fascinated by the coverage of NASCAR, they actually have interviews with the driver while he's mid race. That's crazy!

Pop Wrap: What was it like working with Michelle Trachtenberg?

Drew: What I love about Michelle is that she shows up every day always looking to have fun and that's so refreshing to see in someone whose been in this business for as long as she has. There is always joking and lightness when she's on the set, it makes for a very fun day.

Pop Wrap: "The Circuit" is pretty steamy for ABC Family isn't it?

Drew: I think they really stepped it up with this movie. It's racy enough without being overwhelming for the ABC Family audience. I think the movie will attract a lot of people because it's NASCAR too.

Pop Wrap: Kid couldn't be more different from your "Army Wives" character Trevor, was that part of the appeal for you?

Drew: That's what I love about my job, one moment I'm playing this hopeless romantic solider and then the next I am playing the most arrogant race car driver.

Drew spills on more seasons of "Army Wives" and whether or not fans can expect a "Charmed" reunion after the jump!

Pop Wrap: So you're still filming season two of "Army Wives," then what?

Drew: We actually have a really short turn around and go right into filming season three. Being on the set, the energy and the network saying they love what's going on--you have to think that the success we experienced last year will continue.

Pop Wrap: When did you realize that the show had become so popular?

Drew: Actually, down here in South Carolina [where the show films] we're remote. We have no idea how popular the show is. It's not like they're doing major advertising down here, so to hear that people are responding to the show is wonderful. I love that I am not aware of it.

Pop Wrap: Are you not one to read his own reviews?

Drew: For me, acting is all about affecting people. The whole reason I started acting in the first place is because I remember walking out of other movies being affected in such a way that I forgot about my worries. If you spend all your time checking ratings and reacting to critics, you're in this business for all the wrong reasons and it's going to catch up to you.

Pop Wrap: So what shows affect you now?

Drew: I think "Lost" could be the greatest show on TV. The world they've created and how they've told that story and kept everyone in the dark is genius. I also just discovered "Dexter" and "Mad Men."

Pop Wrap: I simply have to ask, for selfish reasons, if there is any chance of a "Charmed" reunion in the future.

Drew: Probably never. It's not that I'm ungrateful to The CW, they're responsible for where I am today, but I'm looking to spread my wings and to keep pushing myself.

"The Circuit" premieres Sunday, June 8 at 8pm on ABC Family.
